News update

Hello there once again!

We’d like to give you an update on events here at the community centre. It has been a busy time for us, as ever! We had a fantastic trip to Dalton Zoo earlier in November with the junior youth group. Our Autumn Club have been away to Bury Market and are looking forward to another trip to the market in time for Christmas. Our advertised coffee morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer raised a wonderful £122.00 for a very worthy cause. Thank you to everyone who contributed and donated.

With eyes looking to the future, we have several events coming up over the festive season. We have a family bingo fundraising night on Tuesday 16th December here at the centre. Funds raised will go towards the residential trip for our youth groups next summer. We have been lucky to book an extremely exciting new venue for our 2015 residential trip which will include lots of fun, popular and new activities for our young people. It will cost more than any of our previous excursions but as a staff, we feel it is worth it and that the children will really, really enjoy it. Incidentally, that will also be the date our youth group break up for Christmas and we will return on Tuesday 6th January 2015.

Our junior youth group will also be going to see the local pantomime performance at Lancaster Grand Theatre. This year’s choice is Aladdin and we’ll be enjoying the show just before Christmas, as we do every year of course.

The annual Christmas lunch for our popular Autumn Club group will take place on Wednesday 10th December at the Auckland Hotel in Morecambe.

So the dates for your diary are as follows:

Wednesday 10th December – Autumn Club Christmas lunch

Tuesday 16th December – Christmas Family Bingo Night (6pm)

Monday 22nd December – Christmas pantomime youth group trip (7.30pm)

Bagpacking in Morrison’s

On Saturday 8th February, our junior youth group will be packing shopping bags at the Morrison’s supermarket in Morecambe in a bid to raise money for this summer’s residential trip. All contributions will go straight into the trip’s funds and so we hope to raise as much as possible. Exact times will be confirmed at a later date.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to all the group members, we hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and we wish each and every one of you a very Happy New Year.

All of our regular groups are now back in action and we have our new girls’ cooking group under way too. So if you are (indeed if you have) a girl between the ages of eight and sixteen, feel free to come along and try our fun new group! We meet on Tuesday afternoons from 4pm until 6pm.

We will be keeping a weekly food diary for this new group, to keep you all up to date with just what we’ve been making! The updates can be found here.

Family Bingo Evening Success

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Christmas family quiz and bingo night on Tuesday 17th December. Fun was had by all and we managed to raise £200, every penny of which will go towards the youth group’s residential trip next summer. A big thank you to all who donated raffle prizes, bought tickets and supported our event.

Everybody here at Skerton Community Centre would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We look forward to wonderful 2014!

New Girls Cooking Group

From Tuesday 7th January, the girls’ craft group will be replaced by a cooking course for a trial ten-week period.

Happy_Cooking_GirlThis group will start slightly earlier (4.00pm)  and finish at 6pm every Tuesday evening. All girls above the age of eight are welcome and the regular ‘subs’ of £1.50 will be charged to cover costs of ingredients. Please come down to join us if you fancy having fun and learning to cook a few simple dishes. You could be the next Delia Smith!

Christmas Time!

Hello there everybody and Seasons Greetings to you! We have been busy bees here at SCC. Our youth group went to see a marvellous performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’ at The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster. The show will run until 4th January 2014 so if you haven’t seen it yet, do check out the details of the play which can be found here. The children really enjoyed the show and I think the adults did too!

The Rainbows, Brownies and Guides’ performance of The Wizard of Oz was a big success! The girls did very well in capturing the magic of Oz so congratulations to every one of our little stars! Thank you also to the parents who supported and/or attended the show.merry-christmas-santa

On Tuesday 17th December, our Christmas family quiz and bingo night is taking place here at the Centre. It will run from 6pm until 8pm and will also include a raffle with a selection of fun prizes to be won! All money raised from this event will go straight into the fund for the youth group’s 2014 Residential trip so please come along, support us and give generously. We hope to see you there!

Christmas Evening by Rainbows, Brownies & Guides

On Friday 6th December, our Rainbows, Brownies and Guides girls are performing in a Christmas play. This year, the show will be The Wizard of Oz.

She meets new friends who join her on her journey but she will ever make it back to Kansas? Come along to see this delightful tale and enjoy the famous songs, quotes and charm of the classic film.

The show will begin at 6pm and will finish no later than 7pm. The cost will be £2 and this will include refreshments with children below the age of ten will go free. For parents of our regular girls, this will include the usual fees.

There will also be a tombola and a raffle with all money raised going right back into the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides funds for the future. We hope to see as many people as possible support this festive event!

Disco Fun

Hello again everybody! We hope you all had a wonderful and safe Bonfire Night, whatever you got up to. We also hope you enjoyed a scarily exciting Halloween. Here at the Centre, we had a busy Halloween disco and were pleased to see so many costumes on show (both terrifying and creative). A good time was had by all who attended and we’d like to thank all the children who came along to join in the fun.
